Our team of glass artists are representing Finland in Glasrijk Tubbergen and exhibiting glass that is made in never before seen ways. In the glass blowing demonstrations we are also demonstrating rare Scandinavian glass blowing techniques. Our group is hoping to build long lasting cooperation between Finland and Netherlands. Therefore we are visiting local museums, galleries, companies and artists around the country. Welcome to see the exhibition and our cool demostrations!
Sini Majuri is combining 100-years old graal technique with modern 3D design creating 3 to 6 layered images inside glass. Her works are cartoon stories inside glass and exhibited in 30 international exhibitions around the world, for example in London, Toronto, Leerdam and New York. The optical illusions of the glass material make her works surreal and dreamlike.
Marja Hepo-aho mixes hot glass with natural stone, combining these two elements into one. Her innovative approach to the medium push the limits of the art and functional glass bringing the unique handcraft to everyday use. Water is an important element in her works as she explores moving, frozen and raining water in her sculptures.
Kari Alakoski is a glass artist who was born near a glass factory of Iittala in 1956. The glass art has been part of his life ever since his childhood. He has blown Pro Arte products like Tapio Wirkkalas’ Kanttarelli and Timo Sarpanevas’ Orkidea as well as done also special series of Aalto-vases. The artistic nature of Kari Alakoski is described as experimental. His every work has something which breaks the conventional and makes it personal. Alakoski does his work often freely blown.

Vuoksi drinking glass & desert bowl captures the movement of a fluttering fabric inside the glass material. Each glass has it’s own breath because the movement of the cloth-like colour is frozen inside the glass during the glass blowing process. Made in Riihimäki, Finland.
Glass cartoon is made with 100 years old glass blowing technique that is mixed with modern 3D-design. Each glass sculpture has multiple image layers on top of each other under the surface of the glass. Surrealistic dream scenes are captured inside the glass to last forever. Glass cartoon has been exhibited in New York, London and Toronto.
Silent winter landscapes, heavy snow and darkness of the Scandinavian night are the main inspirations in the Polar night lamp. The lamp has multiple nested glass domes that filter the light in various ways playing with the variation of dimness and brightness.

27.8 EXHIBITION OPENS IN KUOPIO
My glass cartoon is exhibited in Kuopio Gallery G12 together with Kirsti Tuokko’s paintings. Kuopio is the birthplace of many stories captured in glass, because it’s where I have spent many summers as a child. Welcome to the opening party: Saturday 27.8.2016 at 16 – 18 PM! Exhibition will open 27.8. – 15.9. 2016.
Tervetuloa taidenäyttelyn avajaisiin Kuopion Galleria 12:sta lauantaina 27.8.2016 klo 16 – 18! Lasikertomukseni on esillä yhdessä Kirsti Tuokon maalausten kanssa. On hienoa saada näyttely kotiseudulleni Savoon, koska Kuopio on useiden lasisten kertomusteni syntypaikka. Näyttely avoinna 27.8. – 15.9. 2016.
My drinking glasses and lamps will be exhibited in the Tendence-fair. Talents-exhibition shows the works of young European design professionals. Vuoksi drinking glass captures the movement of a fluttering fabric inside the glass material. The bottom of the glass is transparent and it directs the light into the liquid inside. The combination of transparent and opaque flirts with light and shadow. Each glass has it’s own breath because the movement of the cloth-like colour is frozen inside the glass during the glass blowing process. Tendence is open 27.-30.8.2016.
Esittelen juomalaseja ja valaisimia Frankfurtin designmessuilla. Talents-näyttely kokoaa yhteen nuoria eurooppalaisia suunnittelijoita, joilla on uusi ja mielenkiintoinen lähestymistapa muotoon ja materiaaliin. Vuoksi-juomalasissani ajatuksena on vangita kankaan liike lasin sisään. Suupuhalletut esineet leikittelevät lasin optisilla ominaisuuksilla, valolla ja läpinäkyvyydellä. Näyttely auki 27.-30.8.2016.

28.9 GLASRIJK TUBBERGEN 2016
In September me and Marja Hepo-aho will participate in the international contemporary glass art festival Glasrijk Tubbergen as the representatives of Finland. There will be 2 young glass artists from each European Union country. I use 100-years old graal technique mixed with modern 3D-design in my works. My sculptures are stories drowned under the glass surface. Marja uses glass together with natural stones and blows her forms directly on the stone – combining these two elements together. In Tubbergen our art is joined together and we also teach rare Scandinavian techniques to the visitors during the blowing demonstrations with master glass blower Kari Alakoski. More info in Glass Is More Magazine.
Syyskuussa matkustan Alankomaihin Glasrijk Tubbergeniin yhdessä Marja Hepo-ahon kanssa. Tubbergeniin on kutsuttu kaksi nuorta lasitaiteilijaa jokaisesta EU-maasta. On suuri kunnia päästä edustamaan kansainvälisessä joukossa Suomea. Asetan näyttelyssä esille lasisia kertomuksiani, joissa 100-vuotta vanha graal-perinne yhdistyy moderniin 3D-teknologiaan. Lisää tietoa Glass Is More design-julkaisussa.

Lokakuussa matkustan European Glass Festival 2016-tapahtumaan edustamaan Suomea. Näyttelyyn on kutsuttu 16 eurooppalaista lasitaiteilijaa. Näyttely järjestetään Euroopan kulttuuripääkaupungissa Wroclawissa 15.10.2016 – 23.10.2016, josta se jatkaa Łódźin, Legnican ja Jelenia Góran kaupunkeihin.
My first ever solo exhibition opens in Gallery G12 in Helsinki city center. The Flying Boat exhibition is a cartoon story on glass. It is a lucid dream with swaying rooms and rooftops. Every glass sculpture has multiple layers of images and the pieces are handcrafted in Helsinki with 100 years old Graal technique mixed with modern 3D design.
Summer in Gumbostrand. 2.6 – 4.9.2016. Vainuddintie 72-28, Söderkulla
Open: Friday–Saturday 11–17 and Sunday 11–16
In Gumbostrand I’m exhibiting playful glass sculptures as a part of the group exhibition. Horses, trees and childhood memories are the main themes for the summer exhibition. The venue is beautiful. It’s close to the sea and in a historic industrial setting. Konst & Form is situated in restored 1950s Hartwall factory building in the Gumbostrand district of Sipoo. It is only a 30-minute trip from the Helsinki city centre.
The romantic Maila-Talvio Salon is located in an old country side mansion in Hartola. I’m participating the summer exhibition with some poetry-themed works from the years 2013 – 2015. There will also be our Comic Art In Glass-exhibition in Itä-Häme Museum that is very close by the salon. The salon is one of the few Finnish art exhibitions that is fully organiced by the local municipality.
Peep show -Toinen todellisuus. 28.5. – 14.8.2016. Nuutajärven lasikylä, Vanhan hytin halli
Open 29.5.–14.8.2016 at 11.00 – 17.00
Glass has been manufactured in Nuutajärvi longer than anywhere else in Finland. The glass village is internationally known for the glass and the picturesque environment. So the summer exhibition in there has also very unique theme: it’s a peep show. All the works are hidden inside black wooden boxes and you need to peek trough a small peep hole to have a glimse of the art exhibited.
Tales on glass exhibition shows fairytales that are captures between layers of glass. The logic of dreams and surrealism are the main inspirations for the exhibition. The storylines come together from bits and pieces that slowly evolve like songs or poems. The stories are blown between layers of glass by using a century-old Swedish Graal technique that is mixed up with modern 3D-design. The layered images are created layer by layer during a slow process that takes months.
Tales on glass exhibition is a fairytale under the glass surface. It’s about an animal that travels inside our dreams and bends time, until the dream lasts forever. There is always something hidden in each glass sculpture. Secrets that are revealed only when looked from the right angle thought the glass material.
